In the wake of several multi-day USPTO outages, the USPTO has transition a critical part of its Patent Application Locating and Monitoring (PALM) application to “a new, more modern, stable and resilient server platform” that “is 1,000 times faster, 20 times more efficient, and far more stable and less prone to failure.”1

The USPTO’s previous PALM server, nicknamed T-Rex has been put to rest.

USPTO’s previous PALM server, currently no longer in use. 2

The Director indicates that it has replaced additional old servers and this upgrade is a significant step toward increased reliability of its IT system. Fully modernizing the USPTO’s IT system, however “is a large-scale project that requires significantly more work.”3
