Melisa J. Pytel is Of Counsel with the firm and has over twenty years of experience in the life sciences area, both as outside counsel and as in-house counsel. Her practice includes counseling clients on the creation and management of strategic patent portfolios, due diligence, freedom-to-operate, and opinion work, including validity, infringement and patentability opinions.
She has a diverse practice area in the chemical and biochemical arts, including medical devices, biofuels, pharmaceuticals and molecular biology including DNA, proteins, antibodies, vectors and host cells, methods of treatment, diagnostic methods, and manufacturing processes including cell culture, fermentation, purification and formulation.
Before joining the firm, she worked as an in-house attorney for Human Genome Sciences where she developed strategies for aligning patent rights with business objectives. She has experience in helping clients identify and protect their intellectual assets, along with developing patent procurement and enforcement strategies throughout a product development lifecycle, from research and development through pre-clinical, clinical and commercial products.
